Air Force Special Ops Command (AFSOC) Copes with Sequestration

Air Force Special Ops Command (AFSOC) is reducing spending in response to sequestration. This includes cuts to the AFSOC daily operating budget as well as reductions in investment accounts.

Specific money-saving measures include a temporary hiring freeze for civilian contractors, releasing temporary employees who aren’t mission critical, and freezing some travel.

Air Force Special Ops Command (AFSOC) is also reducing flying time, revisiting contracts, and postponing facilities maintenance. The U.S. Air Force (USAF) special forces command is also revisiting requirements for Overseas Contingency Operations.

Military observers remain concerned about both the short-term and long-term effects of sequestration. Examples of key cuts include reduced flight operations, non-emergency work orders, and purchases of spare parts.
