Cargo Aircraft and AMC

Air Mobility Command (AMC) services cargo aircraft that transport equipment and personnel. AMC also supports air refueling and aeromedical evacuation operations. This air command provides global air mobility for the U.S. Air Force (USAF) .

AMC is headquartered at Scott Air Force Base and has 130,000 active duty, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and Department of Defense (DOD) personnel.

AMC is home to the C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. This T-tailed military transport can move military equipment, supplies, and soldiers anywhere in the world, day or night, and under demanding conditions. AMC was established in 1992.

The C-17 cargo aircraft was built by Boeing and has a powerplant of four fully-reversible Pratt & Whitney jet engines. By directing the flow of air upward and forward, the thrust reversers on the F117-PW-100 engines avoid ingesting dust and debris.
