NASA’s inspector general will audit the space agency’s Ames Research Center after learning that the Silicon Valley facility reportedly leaked military technologies to China and other countries.

The first reported violation of the International Trade in Arms Regulations (ITAR) involves a NASA moon lander prototype that used rocket engine technology from a secret Pentagon missile defense program.

Ames is also accused of providing foreign nationals with information about the radar from the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and terrain mapping systems from Tomahawk cruise missiles.

On a related note, NASA officials have denied that Chinese officials visited Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  The allegations come at a time when the space agency faces an uncertain budgetary future.
