Post-Military Ask the VA for Answers

Last week, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) began expediting its decision making process for claims – at least for post-military veterans who have waited one year or longer. For the oldest VA disability claims, the agency will now make what it calls a “provisional rating” based on the available evidence. Veterans who disagree with a provisional decision will have up to a year to submit additional evidence, or to ask the VA to obtain additional information.

As before, veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who are wounded, will, or injured will continue to have priority through the Integrated Disability Evaluation System. To learn more, read this press release from the VA’s office of Pubic and Intergovernmental Affairs. Post-military personnel can also learn more about disability benefits via the ebenefits portal sponsored by the VA and the Department of Defense.
